Director General of the National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Wednesday issued a strong warning against those who would be found involved in production and marketing of adulterated cosmetics.
“Adulterated cosmetics are being found in the market ahead of the Holy Eid-Ul-Fitr. Such fake cosmetic items will not be allowed to be sold in the market. In this regard, drives will be conducted in the market from Sunday,” he said.
DNCRP Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman said this while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the importers and businessmen of the cosmetics items held at the office of the Directorate in the capital’s Kawranbazar area on Wednesday. Businessmen and representatives from various government agencies attended the meeting.
He said although all cosmetics are packaged items, but packaging rules are not always followed. On the other hand, in case of imported items, there is often no information of the importers on the items while the importers often do not provide MRP which is also very much mandatory.
The director general also said that poisonous chemical is being used in many cosmetics items which is also affecting the skin. “Stern action will be taken against such wrongdoers,” he cautioned.
He said that if any adulterated cosmetics item is found during the drive, then the concerned market authorities would be hold responsible and thus action would be taken against the market committee.
Shafiquzzaman also hoped that the super shops could play a very important role in halting the selling of adulterated cosmetics items.
Businessmen who were present in the meeting pledged to do business abiding by all the rules and regulations.
